Motion to start meeting
Review membership- Current members consist of 6 parents, Ms. Stroud, and Principal Ashbridge. Maria is the PTA representative for the 2024-25 year.
Review bylaws- Discussed membership years and responsibilities as well as the purpose of the SCC. Everyone was in agreement with the responsibilities and indicated that they are willing to fulfill the commitments of the SCC.
– Elect SCC Chair-Motion to nominate Mike Derricott for chair. It was seconded and everyone voted. Passed unanimously
Motion was made to nominate Dale Stephen as Vice Chair due to his past role as SCC chair for the 2023-24 year. It was seconded and passed unanimously.
· Review School Improvement Plans/Budget
Great discussion was had between the two different budgets of TSSA and LandTrust with the destruction of Land Trust plan being developed by the SCC and managed by the school principal. Additional discussion was had as to what would help students grow the most with resource allocation. Currently .5 of East Sandy’s Social Worker is being funded by the Land Trust. This occupies approximately 85% of the budget. It was requested that the SCC discuss a student impact plan on future meetings for this position.
It was also recommended that the principal brings comparison of student performance data with schools with similar demographics. This will help ascertain how East Sandy is doing with student performance comparatively.

Additionally, all SCC members need to go to the training. Below are the dates and times Canyons will be providing them. We don’t have to go together.
SCC Training 2024-25
September 18, 2024:
9 a.m. – 9:45 Basic SCC Training for new members and those wanting a refresher
10-11:30 a.m.: General SCC Training for all members
5:30 – 6:15 pm Basic SCC Training; 6:30 – 8 p.m. general training for everyone
October 3, 2024:
1-2:30 p.m. General SCC Training for all members
5:30 – 6:15 p.m. Basic SCC Training for new members and those wanting a refresher
6:30 – 8 p.m. General SCC Training for all members
October 8, 2024:
10 – 11:30 a.m. General SCC Training for all members
6 – 7:30 p.m. General SCC Training for all members
*All of the above trainings will be in the Canyons Center at the District office, 9361 S. 300 East, Sandy
IMPORTANT:
Principals have requested training start a little later than we have in the past and we are trying to accommodate. With the SCC training later this year, your SCCs still need to plan to have their first meeting in September and not wait until after training is complete. Training should not count as your first meeting. SCCs will have much to accomplish in the first couple of months of the 2024-25 school year.
