Agenda items Approve September 9, 2026 Meeting Notes
- Megan moved to approve the minutes and Audrey Sharkey seconded the motion. All were in favor of the motion.
Action Item: Bylaws
- Need to talk about a few changes to the bylaws. Deidre is going to discuss the Bylaws and changes that need to be made with the bylaws. We need to change the membership portion of the bylaws. We need to be clear and succinct in what the membership is, and exact number. Audrey asked if we can have a number of more parents than staff. We have to have a specific number. We currently have 5 parents and 4 staff. Megan suggested that we just make it what we have right now. We will make it 6 parents representatives and 4 faculty members. One parent position is still to be determined that we can suggest as an SCC member. Megan made a motion to approve the bylaws and the amendment to it, Cathy Jarman seconded and all were in favor.
Action Item: SAFE Routes Plan
- This starts in SCC to help support the safety of kids coming and going to school. We talk about our plan and write up to solidify our plan.
- We need to narrow what our number one concern is for the school and come up with some solutions. This may be with Sandy City or with the school as a whole. There are some concerns with the crosswalk of the parking lot, and that people are parking in daycare spots. There were papers sent out about different types of crosswalks, we may need to send that out to the community.
- Discussion was brought up about having a crosswalk adjacent to the crosswalk that is already present. Dennis does a great job with the crosswalk. It may need to be redefined from the parking lot where parents can stop. It can cause confusion. Megan brought up that people are going fast around the front of the school to pick up students. We need to redefine what the crosswalks are being used for and how to best support safety. Safety patrol was out there crossing students last year at the front of the school.
- It was brought up that we can meet with Safe Walking Route and they can help us see where there are safety concerns. This is submitted to Susan and she works with them.
- I think we are having an issue with enforcing compliance to the signage and rules that are already in place. Officer Burke is great at following up with the safety concerns we have here. She is able to help support us with compliance. Maybe using A Frames to help remind drivers of what the expectations are for them. Audrey brought up getting orange flags to help them cross safely on different routes to school. There are a lot of routes that don’t have crosswalks to get them to school.
- Mrs. Walbeck is going to write up what we proposed today to send to everyone to look at for review.
- Cones and sandwich boards for the sidewalk that is at the top of the parking lot entrance to the school. It’ll be defined both ways.
- We do have safety patrol that are behind the school and out by the crosswalk.
Action Item: DIgital Citizenship Week- October 19-23 – Amber
- A concern with access through the library and making sure those firewalls are safe.
- Education with parent with website (family connections)
- Canyoneering Nights for the school, can we get that at East Sandy? We can explore that possibility and see if that would be a great way to get community members to join us in digital citizenship.
- How do we get the message out? We can send that out via parent square to all the community.
- How do we support parents in a way that they can bridge the gap between school and home? Classlink, Canvas etc.
- We are still a common sense school.
- We had our safe walking routes assembly from the state that showed them how to use safe walking when crossing streets etc.
Action item: Principal Discretionary Funds Approval
Requesting $2,500- this is from cell tower money from all schools. This is a way for the principal to purchase things for students and schools. This may be for t-shirts or food. Proposed to move this to when we have a bigger quorum to make that decision.
Discussion item: Acadience Data from September 2026 – Noelle- we are opting to table this for the next meeting due to time constraints. We can also review the SSRSSIE data. It’s a way to see what concerns we have for the whole school.
Discussion item: Interventionist Movement to grade level- Board passed our change to our TSSP plan. We have moved to getting that great support in each grade. We are hoping to increase our impact on student academic achievement. There was a question about how this will impact students and if there is any data to support this. We are currently at about 50% proficient but our goal is to get to 80%. The goal is to get kids what they need and once they have that gap filled they can move out of intervention. This will be done with progress monitoring and tracking how they are doing in their intervention groups. We are hoping to keep the aides in the budget to support each grade. This would need to be done in SCC.
Discussion item: SCC open position- S D reached out to Principal Walbeck about being interested in but would fill in if necessary. It’s opened up the counsel to see if they know anyone who would be interested in a position on SCC. Mrs. Jarman suggested some parents that could support. Ms. Walbeck suggested that we reach out to many different people to support diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are going to work on getting that position filled by another parent.
Open Discussion: N/A
Next Meeting/Additional Information or Notes: November 10 at 3:15 pm.
Motion to Adjourn: Motion to adjourn by Megan English, seconded by Matt. Meeting has been adjourned.
