❄️ Winter Weather Procedures ❄️
Brrr! Winter is officially here, and we’ve already seen a few snow showers this past week. As temperatures continue to drop, we encourage all students to dress warmly and come prepared for outdoor conditions.
Canyons District always strives to keep schools open and operating as usual. However, if winter weather becomes extreme and road conditions are unsafe, the District may announce one of the following adjusted schedules:
Late Start – allowing extra time for roads to be cleared
Remote Learning Day
Families and employees will be notified of a late start or remote learning day as early as possible through ParentSquare. Additional information is available on the Canyons District website under “Winter Weather 101.”
Many families have also asked when we call for an inside day for morning arrival or recess.
➡️ We will hold inside days when the temperature (or wind chill/“feels like” temperature) is 22°F or below.
Thank you for helping us keep all Mustangs safe, warm, and ready to learn this winter! Let us know if you’d like this formatted with a graphic or header for your newsletter.
🔎 Lost & Found is Overflowing!
Our Lost and Found is growing, and many items are missing their owners! Please encourage your child to stop by and take a quick look to see if anything belongs to them. Families are also welcome to check before or after school hours.
All unclaimed items will remain at the school until Winter Break (December 19). After that date, remaining items will be donated to Savers/Deseret Industries.
Thank you for helping us reunite these items with their rightful homes! 🧤🧥🎒
📅 Every Day Counts at East Sandy! Our goal this year is to reduce chronic absenteeism by 20%. Did you know that students with 10 or more absences in a school year are considered chronically absent? That’s the equivalent of attending 95% of the year.
This is why every single day matters when you’re a Mustang! Consistent attendance helps students build strong academic skills, form positive relationships, and stay connected to our school community.
Below are our November attendance numbers by grade level.
🎉 Congratulations to 4th Grade, our top attendance winners for the month!
🏃♂️ 3rd Grade was right on their heels and made it a close race!

📚 New Reading Challenge: Jingle All the Way Past Ms. Walbeck! 🎄
Let’s see how many Mustangs can out-read the principal this month! Families can join in the fun by encouraging students to read 20 minutes each night and log their minutes in Beanstack through Classlink.
✨ We’ve already met our goal of 100,000 minutes—and we’re not stopping!
As of today, our amazing students, faculty, and staff have logged 109,808 minutes of reading! Keep those minutes coming as we race past our goal and celebrate a season full of stories, learning, and Mustang pride!
