Ready for ‘Big Kid’ School? Apply for CSD’s Supplemental Kindergarten Program

Ready for “big kid” school? Kindergarten is a critical year in a child’s education, and to make sure students get off to a strong start, we are expanding the number of hours some of our kindergartners spend in the classroom. Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m., Canyons District will begin accepting online applications for its Supplemental Hours of Kindergarten Instruction program for the 2020-2021 school year. Our school is among 20 throughout the District that is offering the program. Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2020 to participate in the opt-in, tuition-based program. Space is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Phase one of the application process will end on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 11:59 p.m., and by Feb. 12, families will be notified of whether their students have been admitted to a school of their choosing or placed on a waiting list. Canyons District will continue to accept applications after Feb. 5. Students who apply after that date will be added to a waiting list or invited to enroll at schools that still have openings. Students who are accepted into the program will receive nearly four additional hours of instruction every school day. The participating children begin and end school at the same time as the school’s first- through fifth-grade students. Cost for the program is $2,950 a year, and can be paid in monthly installments. A 10 percent discount is available for parents and guardians who pay the yearly tuition in full at one time. Good Afternoon Mustangs!  We are so excited to be back from the long weekend and we are looking forward to the full weeks coming up.  Parents we are having a lot of students come to school who are not prepared for the weather.  Please send your students in winter clothing.  They are outside for recess and we would appreciate you sending them with coats, gloves, and even snow pants if they have them.

With snow comes winter fun! Parents will you please talk with your students about leaving the snow on the ground during the school day.  Over the weekend I went out and threw snowballs with my husband and daughter and I know how fun it can be.  With that being said please remind your students that there is a time and a place for those activities and during school we need to leave the snow on the ground.  Additionally, we had many students come prepared to sled down our hills.  Unfortunately, this is a safety matter and students are not allowed to sled down the hills at the school.  Again we are asking for your help in talking to your students about this.

As we move forward through the week we have some fun events coming up.  This Friday we have popcorn Friday as well as Spirit day.  Don't forget to wear your East Sandy gear.  Additionally, we have an orchestra concert coming up on Friday.  Looking forward to next week we have White Ribbon Week.  Hope you have a great day!

Welcome back Mustangs from a beautiful long weekend!  Just a few updates for this short week.  Don't forget there will be no school for students this Friday, January 19.  We hope you enjoy another long weekend with family.

It is cold and flu season.  Parents please be mindful of how your students are feeling.  If you notice they are sick and decide to send them to school please make sure we have an updated contact number available to reach you throughout the day.

Beginning this week temperatures will be dropping again and we are looking at seeing some snow...(Yay!) Parents please make sure your students are dressed for the cold weather and if they are missing a coat or other items come check to see if it is in our lost and found.  It is looking rather full right now.

Looking forward to next week we will have spirit/popcorn day next Friday, January 26.  Don't forget to wear your Mustang gear!

Have a great day!
